Gingerbread House Fun!
This Christmas Season finds me doing more creative things with my kids and I'm thankful that I've felt well enough to do it. These two kids of mine have been quite charming lately and this project began the festive season.
If you are considering doing one I highly recommend the kits you find in the grocery store to provide the gingerbread walls. The frosting, however, was not satisfactory and as the roof was sliding off the walls after the 30 minutes of still holding them together....I went for a good old fashioned egg white royal icing recipe. So, save yourself the tragedy of lopsided walls and sliding roofs and just make your own icing. I'll post the recipe I used....and yes, it made those lovely icicles too!
Royal Icing
3 egg whites
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 lb. powdered sugar
To make Frosting: Combine egg whites and cream of tartar in a mixing bowl. Beat until a stiff peak forms. Add powdered sugar until mixture is thick and holds its shape. Cover icing with a damp cloth until ready to use.
